ABSTRACT
Abiriba dialect is an unstudied dialect of Igbo language. Over the years, non one has been able to come up with any study on the dialect as every study and research so far had been focused on the cultural heritage and settlement of the Abriba people.
This study focuses on the morphological processes present in the dialect which include: Affixation (prefixation, suffixation, interfixation, circumfixation and suprafixation, compounding and reduplication.
Descriptive theoretical framework has been employed to enhance the study. Method of data collection for this study is purely direct interview with the speakers of the dialect. In Abiriba dialect, affixation function mainly either to change the class or as a word class maintain element. On the part of compounding and reduplication, they mainly help to increase the vocabulary of the dialect by taking into consideration the phonology and culture of the dialect.
The attempt made is not a final research on this topic, but it presents a foundation for further researchers on this particular phenomenon in Abiriba dialect of Igbo language.
