ABSTRACT
This work is aimed at analyzing personal names of different individuals in Edo language. It includes the morphological processes involved in the realization of these names.
The first chapter of this work includes the introduction ,a brief history of the Edo people, Edo sound system ,Edo vowel chart ,Edo consonant chart, classification and the distribution of the sound system, purpose of study, significance of study, statement of problem, limitation of study, method of data collection, and theoretical framework used for this work.
The second chapter involves the review of literature which will enable us to understand the work.
The third chapter deals with the analysis of the data collected and also employs the morphological processes involved in the analysis of the names presented, the meaning of the names presented as well as their significance
The last chapter is concerned with the summary of the findings of this work as well as the conclusion.Some of the findings include prefixes attached to a morpheme, such as ‘I’can be said to personal pronoun referring to one’s self,while ‘a’attached to a morpheme can be said to refer to the pronoun ‘we’ indicating more than one person and there are cases in Edo that has to do with the existence of names that are single morpheme,whether an affixes is attached to it or not they can stand on their own.
