Abstract
The Nigerian Hip-Hop genre was adapted from the Western word, the United States of America in particular. This brand of hip-hop is setting a pace in the African entertainment industry. The industry has become mainstreamed with overwhelming acceptance in our society. The effect of this music on Children and youths is quite worrisome. By means of vulgar and profane lyrical contents, excessive display of luxury, and the "good life status," the Nigerian hip-hop invade into the psyche of the youth, distracting them from productive causes and engaging them in frivolities. Drug abuse, Fraud gratification and Sexual immoralities are major themes of Nigerian hip-hop music. It has been observed that hip-hop artistes in the NIgerian music industry play collaborative roles by either supporting cyber crimes openly or making them an essential part of their poetic rendition. Popular culture as represented in the music industry seem to largely support internet fraud in their lyrics, a situation that has painted Nigerians in bad light. Also, these artistes tends to promote drugs abuse through the appraisal of drug use in their music as young adults tend to participate in the illicit use of drugs because their favorite artiste praises it continuously in their songs. In the video representation of their songs, Nigeria artiste promote sexual immoralities through sexually objectifying women and the promotion of nudity.
