Summary
What this study has achieved in the previous chapters is to examine migration, discrimination, literary devices, and style in Teju Cole's Open City, a novel which is a wondrous exhibition of the experiences the black migrant endures in a world that is entirely removed from the sights and sounds of his homeland. This notion is seen in the behaviour of Julius, Cole's intelligent and anxious protagonist. He wanders the city, eager to get an honest sense of the immediate environment that encloses him, but is disillusioned with the deep chasms of racial bias that are present in nearly all the systems and policies of his city, the Open City.
