ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to determine the microbiological status of composite rabbits meat fed cassava peel and leaf meal. Rabbit meat may be contaminated with organisms of various kinds, including spoilage and potentially pathogenic bacteria, like many raw foods of animal origin. Twenty composite bred weaner rabbits of 4 to 6 weeks old were randomly assigned to five dietary treatments in a completely randomized design to evaluate the effect of cassava leaf meal and peel will have on the microbiological status of rabbit meat. These meals were applied as replacement for maize and palm kernel cake respectively at graded levels of 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. Five animals were replicated per dietary treatment with diet one containing 0% inclusion of cassava peel and leaf meal serving as the control. The experiment lasted for 12 weeks. At twelve weeks, the animals were slaughtered and vital organs which are; Liver, Muscle, Lungs and Kidney were removed and subjected to microbiological analysis. The total plate count, isolate, identification and classification of the organisms were carried out.
