ABSTRACT

The study is on the appraisal of Micah’s preaching on social injustice in the Old Testament and its implications for the contemporary Nigerian society. The aim was to examine how Prophet Micah preached against the prevalent social injustice between the rich and poor in the then Land of Israel and show how such teachings can be applied to the prevailing social injustice in the Nigerian state of today. The method used in carrying out this research is the historical and analytical approach which enabled the researcher to look into the history of Israel during the inter-testamental era and compare it to the modern day Nigerian society. Findings from this work showed that the social malaise that was rampant in the days of Micah is still very alive in the contemporary Nigerian society. Furthermore, it was revealed that there is a need to learn from Micah’s admonition in order to make the Nigerian society a better one. The study recommended amongst others that both religious and secular leaders should protect the interest of the poor in the society, in order to improve the socio-economic state of the Nigeria.
