ABSTRACT
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is one of the major causes of nosocomial infections today. Patients infected or colonized with MRSA shed the bacteria into the environment, where the bacteria can survive for long periods of time and become a potential source of infection. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolates from a hospital Laboratory environment in Benin city, Edo state, Nigeria. A total of 250 swab sticks was used to take samples from six locations in various laboratories (bench, clean area, door knob, reception, sink, and tap head). Identification of these isolates were done using colonial morphology, Gram staining and biochemical test which includes coagulase and catalase tests.
