SUMMARY
Although Kàlákìní is set in Nigeria, it covers African history. African history, in most cases, is usually presented from a perspective of hopelessness and inferiority to superiors, Seyi Adigun recounts history from an entirely different view point. The audience which the poet pictures in his text are not intimidated by opposition, instead, the mass expressions of solidarity and hope with victory over fear and despair is what readers see.
The poems analyzed in the research work reveals the strength of the oppressed as in spite of the difficulties that they are faced with, they remain unrelenting to pursue liberation. “I See Africa” like other poemsexpresses the collective effort of the children of Mother Earth to tackle the problem of colonialism. The poet mentions that the enemy is a “mighty foe” nevertheless, Africans believe that fighting in unison could earn the freedom they deserve.
