ABSTRACT
The study examined the market performance of garri marketers in ikpoba-okha local government area of Benin city, Edo state, Nigeria. A 2-stage sampling technique was used to select 30 respondents for the study involving simple random sampling and purposive sampling. Data was generated with a well-structured questionnaire. Analytical technique including descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression were employed to analyze the collected data. Result obtained revealed that majority of the respondents were female (100%) and were married with a household size of 1-5 persons (63%) with a mean of 4.87 persons. The garri marketers had primary level of education (50%). The years of marketing experience was 10-20 years (50%). The regression result revealed that Membership of co-operatives and experience in garri marketing were positive and statistically significant at 1% respectively. The problem of transportation cost was the major constraint faced by the garri marketers at 83%.The objectives of this research were; to describe the socio-economic characteristics of garri marketers in the study area ,ascertain the factors influencing profitability of garri in the study area;identify the constraints faced by garri marketers in the study area. In conclusion this study examined the market performance of garri marketers in Ikpoba-Okha local government area of Benin city, Edo state, Nigeria. From the findings of the study, it is clear that women were the major players in the garri enterprise. I would recommend that basic infrastructural facilities such as good rural road network totruncate marketing cost.
