MAPPING OF PHASE FOUR SECTION OF UNIVERSITY OF BENIN UGBOWO, EDO STATE, NIGERIA

ABSTRACT

This project involves the mapping of a section of University of Benin City using modern surveying equipment like GNSS receiver and Total station. The major field survey operation includes reconnaissance which involves field and office reconnaissance, then data acquisition which involves the use of GNSS receiver and Total station for control establishment, detailing and spot heightening. All the Data acquired from the field were deduced, computed and adjusted according to specification and results were analyzed and found to be within the expected accuracy. Finally, information presentation was done digitally by using the final co-ordinates obtained and spot heights in producing various maps like topographical plan, DTM of the study area, perimeter plan, 3D prototype map of the project area, waterflow direction e.t.c. using suitable scale and a comprehensive report on how the whole operation was carried out was finally written.

The project site was A section of University of Benin Ugbowo campus (PHASE FOUR), located within two local government areas i.e Egor and Ikpoba-okha local government area, Benin city Edo state, Nigeria. The project area is geographically located within longitude 5°36'54.31" E and latitude 6° 23'42.19"N and longitude 5°37'52.01"E, and latitude 6°23'53.17"N. It has an area of 134.33 hectares.
