MAN’S INTERNAL STRUGGLE IN TONI MORRISON’S THE BLUEST EYE AND BELOVED

SUMMARY

In the earlier chapters, this study examined Toni Morrison's portrayals of man's inner conflicts in The Bluest Eye and Beloved. It examines how people's inner conflicts affect their external reality. It focuses on the human psyche and delves into the characters' unconscious minds to reveal how they wrestle with their needs and desires. For example, Pecola in The Bluest Eye is seen as battling her desire to have blue eyes.

   Pecola thinks that if she had blue eyes, all of her problems would be solved. Her obsession with blue eyes stems from her desire to be truly loved by those around her, which in an endless quest brings her to a tragic conclusion. Again, as Pauline Breedlove's character demonstrates, Pecola was driven to an unfortunate catastrophe by Pauline's disregard of her family, especially her children, in her ambition to look like the actresses in the movies.
