MANAGERIAL POLICIES AS AN INSTRUMENT FOR ADVANCING TEACHING PRACTICE EXCERCISE AMONG EDUCATION STUDENT.

ABSTRACT

This study investigates the impact managerial policies play as an instrument for advancing teaching practice exercise among education students in University of Benin. Base on the purpose of this study, four research questions was reviewed in line with the research questions and other concepts. Descriptive research design was adopted to carry out the study and the population of the study comprises of 400lv students from various department in the faculty of education, University of Benin. The sample size for this study consisted of One Hundred (100) 400lv students (respondents) who were randomly selected through simple random technique from five department in the faculty of Education which was used for the study. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire which was designed by the researcher and it was validated by the researcher’s supervisor. The reliability of the instrument was determined through test retest method. The data collected were analyzed using tables, frequency count and simple percentages. Findings reveals that there are different managerial policies regulating teaching practice exercise such as the policy of duration, lesson note, first come first serve, first time teaching practice students consideration and dress code policy. It was also discovered that managerial policies applies to any organization and includes forecasting, formation of objectives as well as policies and programmes. It was also gathered from the study that there tend to exist a correlation between education and structured management practice as it helps in establishing the relationship between human resource and the organization. The study also revealed that there are challenges affecting teaching practice students such as lack of accommodation, distance to some schools, cost of transportation, unconducive school environment, unavailability of instructional materials and excess work load. It was recommended that management should seek input of students and members of staff when designing managerial policies. Managerial policies should be flexible and subjected to continuous review in order to accommodate changing nature of the teaching profession and meet the growing demands of the students. That management should ensure to adequately brief cooperating schools of its managerial policies for teaching practice so as to ensure their full compliance and management should seek feedback from students, lecturers and cooperating schools in order to ensure quality assurance in the teaching practice exercise.
