MANAGEMENT OF PHYSICAL FACILITIES AND SCHOOL EFFECTIVENESS IN SENIOR SECONDNARY SCHOOLS IN EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

This study examined the management of physical facilities and school effectiveness of senior secondary schools in Edo State. The study adopted a descriptive survey research method. The population of the study consisted of all public and private registered senior secondary schools in Edo State. The simple random technique was adopted by the study to selected a size of five hundred forty-eight (548) from six selected local government areas of Edo State.

A structured questionnaire titled” Management of Physical Facilities and School Effectiveness in Senior Secondary Schools (MPFSESSQ)” was used for data collection. The study found out that there was significant difference between public and private secondary schools in the management of physical facilities and effectiveness.

Based on the findings of the study, the study made the following recommendations: Management of physical facilities should play a pivotal role the actualization of educational goals and objectives by satisfying the physical and emotional needs of staff and students. There should be provision of safe structure adequate salutatory facilities, a balance visual and thermal environment, sufficient shelter space for work and play pleasant surrounding, friendly atmosphere and inspiring environment to enhance the teaching and learning process. There is also a need to renovate most of the schools in Edo State, since most of them are dilapidated and seeking renovation.
