CONCLUSION
The benthic macroinvertebrate assemblage analysis revealed the real ecological condition of the Ogba River which turned out to be extremely polluted.
The unique biodiversity of the Niger Delta's rivers is prized across the nation, yet the richness and abundance of the benthic macroinvertebrate fauna in the Ogba River have unavoidably been impacted by the influx of drainage effluents into the river. The relatively low species diversity and abundance found in this study revealed that Ogba River may have stress-inducing elements. The river's capacity to clean itself up after contamination is compromised.
As a result, this research does an assessment of the macroinvertebrate species present and offers information on the Ogba River's current water quality state. The findings of this study can serve as the basis for long-term river monitoring and the use of bioindicators in the management of the river system.
Therefore, in order to develop an effective management strategy for the Ogba River and its resources, an assessment of all effluent discharges and other likely stress-inducing causes in the river is required.
