LOVE, SHAME AND FORGIVENESS IN MICHEAL DONKOR’S HOUSE GIRL

ABSTRACT

This paper examines Love, Shame and Forgiveness in Micheal Donkor's House Girl and Cheluchi Onyemelukwe Onuobia's The Son of The House. Human existence and lifestyle pattern are built on phenomena such as love, shame and forgiveness, as a result we consider the study necessary. The research adopts a qualitative research method, the research also adopts John Bowlby, Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung and Robert Enright concept of emotional bond which advocate for every man's well being and play significant role in their capacity to form intimate relationship in life. This study examine how love can bring bonding and transformation, and also how love can be transgressive, despite the transgression of love, characters in the texts have been able to bond and transform themselves in their various African society. This work also reveals shame and forgiveness as a tool to promote empathy and reconciliation. Our analysis therefore shows that internal self reflection within a character can prompt or generate self knowledge and Independence.
