ABSTRACT
The main objectives of the study examine the role of Local Government toward community development ascertain community development projects initiated, financed, and executed by the local government in the communities; and examine constraints affecting the implementation of development projects in the communities in Obinagu Ivo local Government. The study sample of 200 persons comprised the entire population of the study was used due to the size. Data analysis involves converting a series of recorded observation (data) into descriptive statements and or inferences about relationships Data generated from the questionnaire was analyzed using the simple percentages. From the study its was found that the roles of local government toward community development projects in Obinagu ivo local government is through training and educational support service, provision of technological services is roles of local government toward community development projects in Obinagu ivo local government. Provision of political structures help in community development which was agreed by majority of the respondents. Based on the research study, the following conclusions were drawn. One of the fundamental aims and objectives of the 1976 local government reforms is use of veritable vehicles for the transformation of community development projects in the rural areas through the provision of social services and other financial assistance for self-help projects, which can ultimately improve the people’s standard of living. Based on the research study, the following conclusions were drawn. It is recommended that a higher monitoring authority should be set aside to supervise the existence of checks and balances between the regulations of local government administrative duties and the department of works, housing, and social services.
