ABSTRACT
Lipid and protein profiles of blood sample stored in isolated sulphated polysaccharide for seven (7) days was studied in this research. The parameters of lipid and protein were compared with that of commercial anticoagulant (heparin). Blood was drawn and stored in isolated sulphated polysaccharide (test) and commercial anticoagulant sample bottle (heparin) which were stored in refrigerator with the temperature maintained at 2°C - 8°C. Blood samples was collected once and analysed at day 1, 3 and 7 respectively for both lipid (total cholesterol, triacylglycerol, high density lipoprotein and low density lipoprotein) and protein profiles (total protein, albumin and globulin) respectively. The results obtained for the lipid profiles (total cholesterol, triacylglycerol, high density lipoprotein and low density lipoprotein) and protein profiles (total protein, albumin and globulin) are within the normal clinical range. Comparison of analyte for day 1, 3 and 7 respectively was statistically insignificant (P>0.05) for both lipid (total cholesterol, triacylglycerol, high density lipoprotein and low density lipoprotein) and protein profiles (total protein, albumin and globulin) respectively. From this research, it is suggested that the test sample is similar to the commercial anticoagulant (heparin).
