LIABILITY IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND RECREATIONAL SPORTS: A CASE STUDY OF TEACHERS OF INTRAMURAL SPORTS INJURIES IN IKPOBA OKHA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE, NIGERIA

ABSTRACT

The study examined LIABILITY IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND RECREATIONAL SPORTS: A CASE STUDY OF TEACHERS OF INTRAMURAL SPORTS INJURIES IN IKPOBA OKHA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE, NIGERIA A total of thirty (30) respondents from among Physical Education and Recreational Sports Teachers with aged range 18-24; 25-34, 35-44, 45-54, 55 and above. Level of Education: NCE, Bachelor’s Degree, Master's Degree and Position Held. 30 Physical Education and recreation Sports Teachers participated in this study. The instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire which was established by the researcher. The questionnaire was validated by two experts in the field of Human Kinetics and Sports Science. The data analysis of respondents’ bio data was done using Mean; standard deviation, and Pearson’s product moment of correlation to measure relationships between dependent and independent variables. The conclusion made from the result of the research is that the study may help public and private secondary schools Physical Education Teachers to learn more on ways to provide standard of care to their students who are minors’ vis-à-vis ways to minimize injuries in movement activities to avert litigation. More so, the study will assist the Physical Education teacher in understanding policies and procedures of Intramural Sports programs with a focus on liability issues such as negligence and risk management in order to avoid litigations.
