ABSTRACT
This research work provides an in-depth classification, analysis and discussion of coinages in Nigerian Pidgin. The purpose of this research work is to examine and analyze the contextual/situational and formation processes of some coined words in Nigerian Pidgin. To achieve the aim of this study, the researcher used the tenet of lexical semantics to analyze the 141 coinages found in Nigeria Pidgin. These coined words were gotten through the observation of discourse, from movies, interview and online using the 400 Ibadan word list. The study revealed that meanings of some coinages in Nigerian Pidgin are fixated as it tends to be generally used irrespective of the context while some meanings are solely dependent on who is using the communicative code and also the context which this communicative code was used. The researcher recommends that researchers should do a syntactic, phonological and morphological analysis on the coined words found in Nigerian Pidgin.
