ABSTRACT
The research work titled “Language use in traditional marriage ceremonies: A case study of Urhobo language” is devoted to revealing the register been used in the various activities in the Urhobo traditional marriage ceremonies. Pragmatics, speech acts and ethnography of communication formed the basic theory of this research. This work is sub-divided into five chapters for discussion. In chapter one, the subject matter was introduced, showing the language of study and the people who speak it, purpose and significance of the study as well as the methodology employed in data collection for this work, which includes primary data such as interviews, direct observation as well as secondary data such as books, journals and internet sources. Chapter two reviews terms and concepts which are relevant to this work as well as previous studies. In chapter three, the theoretical frameworks underpinning this work were made known; while chapter four focuses on presentation and analysis of the relevant data for this study. In chapter five, a conclusion was done showing a summary of the work and the findings.
