ABSTRACT

This research delves into the profound aspects of Orunmila worship, focusing on the Orisha's role as a beacon of wisdom, knowledge, and divination in the Yoruba tradition. Through an exploration of Orunmila'ssignificance as a heavenly being and a guide to humanity, the study uncovers the intricate layers of spiritual understanding embedded within Ifá tradition. Orunmila, revered as the custodian of infinite wisdom, is central to the Ifá corpus, which serves as a testament to the rich oral literary heritage of the Yoruba people. The findings elucidate the eight core benefits of Ifá, spanning spiritual, divine, religious, worship, sacrificial, medicinal, historical, scientific, and cultural dimensions. Furthermore, the research concludes by emphasizing the profound impact of Orunmila worship on preserving Yoruba cultural heritage, fostering community cohesion, and nurturing spiritual connections among worshippers in Ibadan land. Through language use and ritual practices, Orunmila devotees uphold age-old traditions, ensuring the continuity of their cultural and spiritual legacy.
