LANGUAGE CHANGE AND MAINTENANCE IN EDO

ABSTRACT
A common characteristics of natural language in that they are prone to variation and change. This research aims at examining the changes that have occur in Edo language over the years.
The research made use of both the primary and secondary data, relevant data were elicited from native speakers. The framework used for analysis is the descriptive framework.
The research found out amongst others that change have occurred in Edo over the years, only few speakers understand what was spoken before and this often lead to communication barrier when using it. Linguistics factors such as lexical borrowing, linguistic inter-ference language contact etc has lead to change in Edo.
