ABSTRACT
This study examines the Language and Ideology of some selected Catholic objects. The aim of this study was to reveal the communicative role of these objects to the Catholics and in addition document the ideologies of these catholic objects. This study is very important to linguistics scholars and Non-Catholics because it creates awareness on the language used when referring to these objects which differs from the language used for day to day interaction. The framework employed for this study was Piercan’s (1931) model of Semiotics. The data relied on for this project was gotten through interview and close of observation of catholic members. The data was collected by the use of a field note and a pen. The result of the investigation showed that the catholic objects are sacred and are firstly dedicated to God first by the Priest before use. Furthermore, certain prayers are attached to these objects and Latin words enrich their vocabulary. These objects are not thrown away if it gets old but they are either buried or burnt.
