ABSTRACT
This work is an investigative study of language and Health in Doctor- patient Discuss. The research work was conducted to find out the language choice of Doctors and was able to show that Doctors makes use of a highly structured discourse during Doctor-patient conversation. The main instrument used in this study was the Tape recorder, which was used in such a way that enabled the researcher to have vital information about the effect of language on the health of the patient. The theory employed in this work is that of the Conversational Analysis which revealed the turn construction unit where current speaker selects next speaker, next speaker self selects and current speaker continues the conversation in Doctor- Patient Discuss. At the end of this work, our findings were made from the data gathered and we can state conclusively that the basic structure of Conversational Analysis in turn-taking is very much evident in the language of Doctors
