LAND USE AND LAND COVER CHANGES IN SOKPONBA FOREST RESERVE.

ABSTRACT

This study evaluated the land use and land cover changes in Sakponba Forest Reserve of Edo state Nigeria. Remote sensing and GIS techniques were used. The landsat imagery was done for 1986 to 2023 and was used for quantitative analysis and assessment. In 1986, dense forest reduced drastically from 228.79km²  to 129.87km² in year 2002, gained 2.06km² from sparse vegetation to 0.56 km² from waterbodies, it was very inconsequential with the dense forest drastically reducing from 228.79 km² in Although it gained 0.24 km² from built-up area, 0.55 km² from sparse vegetation, and 1986 to 5.17 km² in year 2023.
