This study examines the knowledge of diabetes management, specifically focusing on the influence of diet and lifestyle changes among staff of Oredo Local Government Area, Edo State, Nigeria. Given the rising prevalence of diabetes and its impact on health, this research aims to assess awareness levels and explore how lifestyle modifications and dietary practices affect diabetes control.

Using a descriptive survey research design, a sample of 144 staff members was randomly selected from a population of 2,870. Data was collected via a structured questionnaire, which was validated by experts and tested for reliability through the test-retest method. Descriptive statistics were employed to analyze responses.

The findings reveal a high level of diabetes knowledge among the staff, including an understanding of symptoms, risk factors, and preventive measures. However, some gaps were observed in knowledge regarding diabetes diagnosis and management. The study also found that lifestyle changes such as regular exercise, weight management, and stress reduction have a positive impact on diabetes control. Dietary choices, including the reduction of simple sugars and emphasis on low-carbohydrate, high-fiber foods, play a crucial role in blood sugar management. The study concludes that both lifestyle modifications and diet are essential components in managing diabetes effectively. To enhance diabetes management in Oredo Local Government Area, it is recommended that continuous health education programs, workplace fitness initiatives, and nutritional counseling be made available to staff. These initiatives could bridge knowledge gaps and promote healthier lifestyles among employees, ultimately supporting better diabetes outcomes.
