ABSTRACT
This study was designed to elicit “the Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Exclusive Breastfeeding among Nursing Mothers Attending Antenatal at the University of Teaching Hospital”. To achieve this, three research questions were formulated for the study.
To explore these research questions, a simple random sampling technique was used for the study and a sectioned designed questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection. The sample size for the study consisted of 100 respondents who represented the entire population of women attending antenatal at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City, Edo State. A frequency count and simple percentage was used for the study. It was discovered that respondents are not aware of exclusive breastfeeding.
Based on the findings, it was recommended amongst others that government should create public awareness that would be of much enlightenment on exclusive breastfeeding, and that service providers should develop their skills in counseling on exclusive breastfeeding.
