ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to investigate the knowledge and use of road traffic signs among secondary school students in Oredo LGA. Four research questions were raised to guide the study. The descriptive research design was used for the study. The sample size comprises of 143 students in Oredo LGA. The face and content validity was used to establish the validity of the instrument while test-retest method of reliability was used to ascertain the reliability of the instrument. The findings showed that that while most students recognized basic road traffic signs, there were significant gaps in their knowledge of more complex signs. Gender and parental influences were also found to play a role in students knowledge and use of traffic signs. The study highlights the importance of road safety education and parental influences in shaping young user's behaviour. The findings have significant recommendations for the development and implementation of road safety policies and practices in Nigeria and inform strategies to improve road safety in the country.
