ABSTRACT
This long essay to show the great care and effort to examine the Deweyan practical philosophic approach to education and at the same time looks at the feasibility of introducing his theory into the Nigerian system. Through the lens of Dewey’s instrumentalism, seeing the aplenty bottlenecks overshadowing any foreseeable progress in the Nigerian system, it calls attention to serious discursive philosophical intervention through the same leans to probe deeply into the causes of setbacks we often witness in the system. Finding these problems and their causes, with help of Deweyean instrumentalism, we can say here that Dewey’s thoughts in his work occupy an inevitable intellectual position. This work is within two ambient. On the one hand, it exposes and analyzes Deweyean educational philosophy and on the other hand, the work carefully looks at the possibilities of a possible adoption of his theory and recommendation in the Nigerian educational system. Lastly, the methodical approaches, which this work adopts, are analysis/appraisal.
