ABSTRACT
The study aimed to explore the diversity of fungi through the isolation and characterization of fungi isolates from clinical samples such as urine, skin swabs, vaginal swabs, and mouth swabs collected from asymptomatic undergraduate student. A total of 75 samples comprising mouth swabs, skin swabs, vaginal swabs and urine samples were collected and immediately transported to the laboratory for microbiological analysis. The results of this work revealed the presence of various Candida species, with Candida albicans being the most predominant (61%), followed by Candida parapsilosis (26%),Candida glabrata (13%), Aspergillus sp (8%) and Trochoderma sp (3%). The predominance of C. albicans is consistent with the existing literature, but the identification of non-albicans Candida and other fungal genera highlights the importance of accurate species identification for effective management of fungi infections.
