ABSTRACT
Most bacteria in and on the body are harmless or rendered so by the immune system’s protective functions, and many are useful, particularly those in the gut. The aim of this study was to isolate and identify bacteria isolates from lecture tables in University of Benin’s Microbiology Lecture Theater. Using standard morphological and cultural characterization, the isolates obtained in this study were E.coli, Salmonella sp, Klebsiella sp, and Staphylococcus aureus. The isolates were all susceptible to ciprofloxacin and gentamicin but were resistant to erythromycin, methronidazole, colistin and clindamycin. It is recommended that the lecture tables be cleaned and disinfected on a regular basis before and after usage to assist decrease the chance of bacteria being transferred through contact with the tables.
