ABSTRACT

Air is made up of more than simply gases as observed when a beam of light is directed through a pitch-black space and lights the particles in its passage. There is an airborne biosphere teeming with bacteria beneath the surface of the visible particles. The goal of this study is to use the sedimentation method of air sampling to isolate and identify bacteria from rooms in University of Benin(UNIBEN)hall of residence (case study; HALL 4)and the objectiveof the Studyis to; collection of airborne bacteria from the resident hall by exposing a nutrient agar plate is oneof the researcher'skey goals, finding the particular bacterial isolate that is present in the sample, calculating the bacteria's prevalence in the environment and determining the bacteria's test for antibiotic susceptibility. The samples were collected using sedimentation method and then incubated for 24 hours, the isolates were counted and sub-cultuted in a nutrient agar plate and incubated for another 24hours. Biochemical test like citrate, oxidase, indole, catalase,urease and triple iron sugar test were done, further enumeration including Gram staining and Antibiotics susceptibility test was done. After the inoculation, Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtitleMicrobial air quality of public buildings is an important to inform human risk. The bacterial and fungal concentrations clearly varied regarding type of human activity, intensity of occupancy and ventilation. Public buildings with natural ventilation and high intensity of occupancy had the worst microbiological air quality. The microorganisms obtained in this study is of more concern to human health and thus our surroundings and rooms need to be kept clean and with proper hygienic procedures often so as to reduce the risk associated with microbial contamination and pollution.
