ABSTRACT
This study examines irregular migration and its consequences, a case study of Benin City, Edo state, Nigeria. The objectives of the study were to examine how irregular migration affects the socio-economic condition in Benin City. Questions were administered to a total of 412 respondents and out of this 13 returned unanswered. The data collected was fed into the SPSS. Using the frequency table and linear correlation. it was found that irregular migration has indeed negatively affected the people of Benin City socio-economically. It also was found out that the people of Benin are aware of irregular migration and its consequences but argued that the reason why people, especially youths still migration irregularly is because of the high level of unemployment, low standard of living, low per-capital income among other push factors. The study recommends that the government should focus more on the youths in terms of providing jobs and other facilities that will encourage them to stay and create a life here for themselves.
