ABSTRACT

Syzygium aromaticum, commonly known as (clove), are well regarded for their medicinal properties, particularly in managing diabetes. The ethanol extract has been investigated for its potential to inhibit enzymes like alpha-amylase and alpha-glucosidase, which are crucial in carbohydrate metabolism. These enzymes break down complex carbohydrates into simple sugars, influencing blood glucose levels. Inhibiting these enzymes can help manage postprandial hyperglycemia, making it beneficial for diabetes management.The ethanol extract of syzygium aromaticum has been studied, revealing a rich phytochemical profile through High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The active compounds identified are quercetin, kaempferol, Ellagic acid and beta- caryophyllene and other polyphenoliccompounds.The In vitro studies demonstrate that Syzygium aromaticum has potent alpha-amylase and alpha-glucosidase inhibitory effects, primarily due to its rich polyphenolic content. The HPLC profile of Syzygiumaromaticum extract reveals a detailed composition of its bioactive compounds, highlighting its potential as a natural treatment for diabetes by influencing carbohydrate digestion and glucose absorption.
