ABSTRACT
This study investigated diversity in a complex healthcare organization. It explores and analyses the diversity management and also the workforce diversity (putting into consideration the age, gender and cultural background).This was carried out in a tertiary healthcare facility. Primarily and firstly, this project aims and intends to make this new concept of diversity management to be properly and well embraced and known and consequently brought to lime light and should be used in managerial practices in the healthcare facility .The theoretical framework adopted is Ely and Thomas discussion which is based on a literature review about the new paradigm for managing diversity, as it relates to age, gender and cultural background. It includes the cons and proms of the term, diversity management and also the theoretical and practical implementation process generally. Hence the type of information or data used in the research is secondary and primary data. This mode of primary data collection was through questionnaire and one on one interview with the staff of the healthcare facility. 20 staffs filled the well -structured questionnaire while 10 staffs were interviewed. The results were analyzed by using thematic content analysis and simple percentages determination. This finding indicates among other things that diversity influences productivity. There is better patient outcome. Workforce diversity increases profit for the healthcare organization. Healthcare diversity helps in innovation and new technological way of doing things.
On the basis of which certain recommendations were proferred viz: The continuous training of the workforce. The Federal Character Principle to be strictly adhered to.
