INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS CAMP AND THE Challenges OF MAINTENANCE

ABSTRACT

This study examined internally displaced persons camp and the challenges of maintenance using Uhogua IDP in Edo state. The camp accommodates over 2,000 IDPs including men, women and children who were displaced from the North Eastern part ui Nigeria by Boko Haram, majority of the people in the camp are children who are over 1 000 persons. Hausa’s and Fulani’s are the major occupants of the camp. The camp started as a home for the needy, a church and orphanage home. Due to insurgency in the North Eastern part of the country there was an increased number of displaced persons. Uhogua IDP accommodated most of the insurgents and also connected with Pastors, churches in the North East to help bring displaced persons to the south. Due to the increased number of insurgents in the camp. Uhoagua IDP came to limelight in 2011.
