ABSTRACT

Internal conflict is the disagreement within an individual or self over an issue that he or she is fighting against by him or herself for some time in order to overcome the dilemma and be free. This essay, therefore, examines internal conflict in Chinua Achebe’s Arrow of God and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Half of a Yellow Sun with a view to showing how the characters are able to resolve these internal predicaments. The research method applied in this essay is a textual analysis of the selected novels, thereby making it a qualitative research. The research finds that the characters are pitched against themselves in religious and social conflicts which they struggle to resolve in the plots of the narratives.
