ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to examine intergovernmental relations between state and local government: a case study of Edo State To determine the relevance of inter-governmental relations between state and local government, determine the main sources of conflict among inter-governmental relations between state local government and recommend solutions to inter-jurisdictional conflict between state and local government. The following recommendations have been made knowing fully well that the constitution made provision for inter-governmental relations in Edo State, a more specific one should be provided in order for local government authorities to know how to relate among the levels of government and know to what extent their relationship among other levels of government is extended. In so doing, all the levels of government should be part and parcel of policy formulation relating to the issues at hand. Both Federal and State government hence to include local government authorities in their programmes that affect rural development. In order words, decisions should not be composed on local Government. In order to maintain that the main areas of inter-government relations in Edo state and financial relations, administrative relations and jurisdictional relations, the government should consider the local government while formulating allocation formula, this is in order for the local government to know how much resources is attributed to them annual.
