ABSTRACT
This study assess the influence of vocational education programme on the socioeconomic development of women in Oredo Local Government Area. Five research questions were raised to guide the study. The study adopted the descriptive survey design method. A total of one hundred and fifty (150) women in Oredo Local Government Area was used in this research. The major instrument used for this study was the questionnaire. The questionnaire was designed and validated by experts in the department of Adult and Non-formal Education, Faculty of Education, University of Benin. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques such as, tables, frequency counts,percentages and mean score analysis. The criterion mean of 2.50 was used for decision making. Findings of this study revealed that tailoring, hairdressing, catering and baking, cosmetology, agriculture, jewelry making, interior design and makeup are Vocational Education Programmes in Oredo Local Government Area, it was further revealed that vocational education programmes has influenced the social and economical lives of women in Oredo Local Government Area by improving the social status of the women, improving the ability of women to network and collaborating with others in social activities, increasing the financial independence of women, increasing the income generating capacity of women. It was further recommended that vocational education programmes should be more focused on by the government through creation of additional technical and vocational schools in order to accomodate and train women in different fields of technical and vocational education as they are under represented in the country.Technical and vocational education will be popularized to embrace the advancement of the women and vocational training for women should be encouraged, motivated and elevated in the society.
