ABSTRACT

The purpose of the story was to find out the Influence of Team Cohesion on Sport Performance Among Soccer Players in Edo State Sport Commission. The population was made up of 2,200 soccer players (1,100 males and 1,100 females) registered with the Edo State Sport Commission. The research examines three research questions and four hypotheses related to overall team cohesion, gender differences, and age-based differences in team cohesion's impact on performance. Using Pearson’s correlation statistics, significant positive relationships were found across all tested hypotheses. A survey research design of the correlation type was adopted for the study. A sample of 210 soccer players (105 males and 105 females) using a self-structured questionnaire was the instrument used to collect data for the study. The instrument was validated by three experts and tested for reliability. For the overall sample of 210 soccer players, a high positive correlation (r = 0.976, p < 0.05) was observed between team cohesion and sports performance, leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis. Similarly, among male (N=105) and female (N=105) soccer players, strong positive correlations (r = 0.908 and r = 0.917, respectively, p < 0.05) indicated significant relationships between team cohesion and sports performance, rejecting the null hypotheses for gender-based differences. Age-based analysis also revealed a positive, though weaker, correlation (r = 0.346, p < 0.05), underscoring the significance of team cohesion across different age groups.
