INFLUENCE OF TEACHING METHODS ON LEARNING EFFECTIVENESS AMONG BUSINESS EDUCATION STUDENTS IN PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES IN EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

The study investigated the influence of teaching method on learning effectiveness among business education students in public Universities in Edo State. The cross sectional survey research design was adopted with a total population of 200 business education students of University of Benin, Benin City. The entire population was used for the study. Therefore, there was no sampling due to its manageable size. The instrument for the study was the use of questionnaire. The questionnaire was segmented into two sections A and B. Section A measures the demographic variables of the respondents such as gender and sex, while section B, comprised (16) item statements which were drawn from the research questions. Data collected were analyzed using the simple percentage and chisquare (×2) which showed the relationship and significance between the variables. Findings of the study revealed that there is a significant relationship between lecture method and learning effectiveness among business education students in Public Universities in Edo State. The study also revealed that there is a significant relationship between demonstration method and learning effectiveness among business education students in Public Universities of in Edo State. Similarly, the study also revealed that there is a significant between discussion method and learning effectiveness among business education students in Public universities in Edo State. Based on the findings, It was concluded that both lecture, demonstration and discussion methods play pivotal roles in students’ academic achievements. The study therefore recommended among others, that teachers should learn how to use two or more methods together during a learning experience so as to achieve the desired objectives.
