ABSTRACT
The study investigated the influence of student unionism on manager’s administrative effectiveness in selected universities in Nigeria. To direct the study, five research questions were raised and three hypothesized. The study used descriptive survey design. The random sampling technique was used in selecting respondents for the study. Two research instruments were used for the study titled “Administrative Staff Questionnaire on the Influence of Students Unionism on Managers Administrative Effectiveness in Universities in Nigeria and Students Union Government Questionnaire on the Influence of Students Unionism on Managers Administrative Effectiveness in Universities in Nigeria. Data collected were statistically analyzed using SPSS 21.0 version and the hypotheses were tested inferential statistics of Pearson Product Moment Correlation Statistic at 0.05 level of significance. The results of the findings revealed that there is a significant relationship between student’s unionism and effective University administration in Nigerian universities, there is no significant relationship between student’s unionism and effective administration of universities by ownership and that there is no significant relationship between students’ unionism and effective administration of universities by type. Based on the findings, recommendations were made which includes: University administrators in Nigeria should be committed to changing organizational culture from the traditional patterns of hierarchical structure to participative management to improve its effectiveness. This can be achieved by putting in place functional and effective Students Union Government members in key areas of university administration.
