ABSTRACT

This study seeks to examine the impact of historical educational information on enhancing the understanding of previous events in Nigeria among History students at the University of Benin. The data was gathered by administering questionnaires and evaluated using descriptive statistics, such as frequency distribution and percentages. The findings highlight both the curriculum's strengths and areas where it may be improved in the history education program. Although a significant number of students had a strong comprehension of Nigerian history, suggesting that the curriculum was well taught, there were certain deficiencies identified in the teaching of specific historical periods and events. In addition, there were concerns regarding the teaching methods employed, as several pupils experienced a diminished level of involvement. Resolving these concerns could improve the educational experience, better equipping students to understand and actively participate in the intricacies of Nigerian history.
