INFLUENCE OF SIWES ON BUSINESS EDUCATION STUDENTS SKILLS ACQUISITION IN EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

The study investigated the influence of SIWES on business education and its influence on their SKILLS ACQUISITION in University of Benin. Four research questions were raised to guide the study. The population of the study comprised of all the 400 level business education students in the 2017/2018 academic session Midi a total number of 24 (twenty four) students. There was no sampling technique as the population size was manageable. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. A structured questionnaire Wiled: influence of WIVES on mynas education students and their SKILLS ACQUISITION questionnaire (ISBEAPQ) was used for data collection. The instrument was validated by the researcher's supervisor as well as two other experts in the department of Vocational and technical education while the instrument was ascertained to be reliable with a coefficient of 0.74. Data were analyzed with mean and standard deviation. The study concluded that participation of students in SIWES enhances SKILLS ACQUISITION of students through their exposure to modern facilities, acquisition of skills that invariably enhances their SKILLS ACQUISITION. Based on the finding of the study, the following recommendations: government should liaise with well equipped private industries for students to their SIWES Programmes in order to accelerate the exposure of students to modern facilities which invariably enhance their acquisition of skills for self reliance there should be training and re-training of supervisors during SIWES to adequately equipped them with the rudiments of supervision to enable them execute the role of supervision effectively thereby enhancing their quality of performance.
