ABSTRACT
The experiment was carried out to study the growth response of African Giant Land Snails (Archachatina marginata) and how they can thrive well under captivity during rainy and dry season with a view to identify the best time and season to raise them.
The study (data collection) was done in the confines of Wildlife Unit, Forest Resources and Wildlife Management, University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State. The objectives of the study was to evaluate the growth performance of the snail in terms of body weight gain, length and width increment of shell , determine the best season suitable for the growth and development of the snails and to determine the feed conversion ratio during rainy and dry season.
A total of thirty (30) were divided into 6 pens, 5 snails per pen in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The feeding trial lasted for 14 weeks. Growth indices: weekly weight gain, shell length, shell width, feed conversion efficiency (FCE) increased during the rainy season and reduced during the dry season.
