ABSTRACT

The study examined the Influence of recreational activities as work stress coping strategies among female non-academic staff in University of Benin. A total of one hundred (100) respondents from among female Non-academic staff members of the university of Benin aged Age: 20 - 29 years, 30 – 39 years, 40– 49 years, 50- 60 years. Level of Education: B.Sc., M.Sc., PhD and others. 100% female Non-Academic Staff from Registry, works, bursary, library, Health Center, Exams and records, administrative staff, Audit, Sports Complex and security participated in this study. The instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire which was established by the researcher. The questionnaire was validated by two experts in the field of Human Kinetics and Sports Science. The data analysis of respondents’ bio data was done using mean and standard deviations and Pearson Correlation was used in analysis of data and testing of hypothesis. The conclusion that was made from the result of the research is that female nonacademic staff in Universities of Benin faces unique stressors that may require specific coping strategies. And that recreational activities as a coping strategy for this group with its potential benefits for promoting well-being and reducing work stress cannot be undermined.
