INFLUENCE OF QUALIFICATION OF INTEGRATED SCIENCE TEACHERS ON THE PERFOMANCE OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS ACADEMIC IN EXTERNAL EXAMINATION IN OVIA NORTH EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE.

ABSTRACT

This study is to investigate the Influence of qualification of integrated science teachers on the performance of secondary school student's academic performance in external examination in Ovia North East local government area in Edo state. Three research questions were raised to guide the study.

Data were collected through questionnaire that was randomly distributed to five schools in the Local Government Area. The techniques used for analysis were the simple frequency, percentage and mean based on a four point Likert scale. The population of the study was 4,025 but the sample was 100students randomly selected. Five (5) schools were randomly selected from the thirteen (13) Senior Secondary Schools in Ovia north east Local Government Area of Edo State.

Based on the research it was discovered that there is difference in students' performance in Basic science of those taught by qualified/ skilled teachers and unqualified/ unskilled teachers in 2020/ 2021 Session. Secondly, there are differences in students' performance in Basic science between those taught by long -time experienced teachers and short - time experienced teachers in 2020/ 2021 Session, overall, there is difference in students' performance in Basic science between Government schools and Private schools in 2020/ 2021 Session
