ABSTRACT

             This Study was designed to examine the influence of parental involvement on students’ academic performance in secondary schools in Ovia north east local government area of Edo state. To achieve these three research questions were used during the course of the study, and three hypotheses were formulated for the study.  

          The design used for this study is the survey research design. The population of the study comprised all secondary school students in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The sample size for the study was 100 students, The Random sampling technique was used in this study. The main instrument used in collection of data was the Questionnaires titled "Parental Involvement and Students' Academic performance scale". To ensure the content and face validity of the instrument, the drafted copy of the questionnaire was given to the three experts for proper modification. In order to ascertain the reliability of the instrument a pilot study was conducted using 20 students in Egor Local Government Area in Edo state. The reliability estimates of .728 was obtained using Cronbach’s Alpha statistics which shows that the scale was reliable. Method of Data Collection the copies of the questionnaire were personally distributed by the researcher to the respondents  Method of the data collected was analyzed using one-sample t-Test for all the hypotheses formulated for the study.

       Based on the study the fellowing findings were derived Parental Involvement, Parental Education and Parental Income has significant influence on students' academic performance in Ovia North East L.G.A of Edo state. Based on these findings, the study recommends that government should establish open communication channels to encourage parents to communicate regularly with teachers to stay informed about their child’s progress and encourage parental participation in school activities. And offer workshop for parents to improve parents knowledge.
