ABSTRACT

This study is aimed at the Influence of Parental Involvement on Students’ Academic Performance. To carry out this study three research questions were raised and three hypotheses were formulated.

The design of this was study a Survey Research Design. The population of this study is made up of all the students of various Secondary Schools in Egor Local Government Area, Benin City, Edo State. The sample was made up of 100 (One Hundred) students using the Simple Random Sampling Technique. A Questionnaire titled Influence of Parental Involvement on Student Academic Performance was used for data collection. The instrument was validated by three experts in the department. A Reliability of 0.611 was obtained. The researcher personally administered the questionnaire to the respondents. Research question one was answered using descriptive statistics. One sample statistic was used for hypothesis two. One sample statistic was also used for sample three.

The findings of this research show that parental involvement in students’ academic is not influenced by the sex of a child, that parental involvement significantly influences students’ academic achievement and that financial provision has a significant effect on children’s academic performance. Major recommendations that were made after the study Parents must be involved in the academics of their children and not be nonchalant towards it. Parents should ensure that to the best of their abilities provisions for student’s needs are made.
