ABSTRACT
This study was aimed at ascertaining the Influence of Parental Educational Background on the Learning Outcomes of Secondary School Students. In order to achieve the intended objectives of the study, three research questions was raised and hundred (100) respondents drawn from the students in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State were used. The descriptive survey research design was employed for the study. The tool utilized to collect the data was a self-made questionnaire. Utilizing an expert approach, the instrument was verified. When the instrument's reliability was tested using the Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficient, a reliability coefficient of 0.78 was obtained, indicating that the instrument was trustworthy. Frequency and a straightforward percentage were used to analyze the data. The findings showed that Parental educational background influences children's education and learning outcomes, Parental educational background can shape parents' expectations and aspirations for their children's education. Also, that there is high impact of socioeconomic factors associated with parental educational background on children’s learning outcome. That higher parental involvement in education lead to improved learning outcomes for children, Positive parental role modeling contributes to the development of a growth mindset and a motivation for lifelong learning. Based on the finding of the study, the researcher suggests that a longitudinal study should be conducted to examine the long-term effects of parental educational background and their expectations on children's education and career choices. This study could follow a cohort of students over several years to see how parental expectations set during childhood influence educational and career trajectories in adulthood. Such research can provide a deeper understanding of the lasting impact of parental influence on children's lives.
